Ways To Improve Your Communication Skills0

There is so much to know when it comes to conversation, more than anyone could imagine. You are watching talk shows, listening to radio programs, visiting clubs dedicated to public speaking joining ordinary conversations, etc.

The Blarney Stone is a historical stone, or actually part of the Blarney Castle in Ireland where it was believed that kissing the stone could grant you the gift of gab. Well, it seems strange in these days and age, but are we to question tradition? It is not like I was to say that Santa Claus does not exist (Pardon!).

However, certain rules still do apply when it comes to interaction through words. I know, It may sound tedious, but even though it is your mouth that is doing the work, your brain works twice as hard to stir up out a lot of things you actually know about. So what is a better way than to start learning to be an effective communicator than getting to know the very person closest to you, i.e. yourself.

What you know

Education is all about learning the basics, but in order to become an efficient speaker, you have to practice what you have learned. My stint as guest at numerous meetings has taught me that we all have our limitations, but that does not mean we cannot learn how to keep up and share what we all know.

Listening

It is just as important as asking questions. Sometimes listening to the sound of our own voice can teach us to be more confident in how we are to express things we sincerely believe in.

Humility

We all make mistakes, and sometimes we tend to slur our words, stutter, and probably mispronounce certain words even though we know what it means, but rarely use it only to impress listeners. So, when in a group, do not be afraid to ask if you are using the words in a proper context and if they are unsure whether or then make a joke out of it. I promise you it will make everyone laugh and you can get away with it as well.

Eye Contact

There is a lot to say when it comes to directing your attention to your audience with an eye-catching gaze. It is important that you keep your focus when talking to a large group in a meeting or a gathering, even though he or she may be gorgeous.

Kidding around

A little bit of humour can do wonders to lift the tension, or worse boredom when making your speech. That way, you will get the attention of the majority of the crowd and they get the opinion that you are just as approachable, and as human as those who are listening.

Be like the rest of them

Interaction is all about mingling with other people. You will get a lot of ideas, as well as knowing what people make them the way they are.

Me, Myself, and I

Admit it, there are times where you sing for yourself in the shower. I know I do sometimes! Listening to the sound of your own voice whilst you practice your speech in front of a mirror can help to correct the stress areas of your pitch. And while you are at it you can spruce up as well.

With a smile

A smile says it all much like eye contact. There is no point on grimacing or frowning in a meeting or a gathering, unless it is to wake you up. You can better express what you are saying when you are smiling.

A Role Model

There must be at least one or two people in your life you have listened to when they were at a public gathering or maybe at church. Sure they read their lines, but taking a mental note of how they emphasize what they say can help you once you take centre stage.

Preparation

Make the best out of preparation rather than just scribbling (unreadable) notes and often in a hurried panic. Some people like to write things down on index cards, whilst other resort to being a little more silly as they look at their notes written on the palm of their hand (not for clammy hands, please). Just be comfortable with what you know since you enjoy your work.

And that about wraps it all up. These suggestions are rather amateurish in edgewise, but I have learned to empower myself when it comes to public or private speaking and it can never hurt to be with people and learn how they make conversations and meetings more enjoyable as well as educational.

Stay tuned,

Christer

The Basics of Fats - Without Fat We Cannot Survive0

Numerous sources of information will tell you that fats are potentially harmful elements of your diet. While this is true in general, it does not imply that fats are not valuable from a nutritional point of view.

In fact, fats are absolutely necessary for maintaining proper health. Fats are the chief form of energy stored in the body. During times of unavailability of food, the fats stored in the body provide energy to prevent starvation.

There is good scientific reason behind why fats, and not carbohydrates, remain the chief form of stored energy in the body. The body cannot store glycogen (the dominant form of the body’s carbohydrates) in great amounts because glycogen holds a great deal of water and is very bulky. Fats, on the other hand, can be packed tightly together without water. They can store much more energy than glycogen in a small space.

Foods rich in fats are valuable in many situations. One gram of fat (or oil) provides twice as many calories as obtained from one gram of carbohydrates. People doing hard physical labor and those traveling in cold climates require ample supply of fats to provide energy in the form of heat. Fatty foods usually carry tempting aromas and flavors that will cause you to eat these foods in excess, getting unnecessary many calories.

How do you know when to stop eating? Well, there are certain fats in the food that slow digestion and give the brain a signal to stop eating. That is why fatty foods give a fuller feeling of satisfaction.

The vital organs of the body are surrounded by and cushioned in fat pads that function as shock absorbers. Also, the layer of fat beneath the skin prevents the body from extremes of temperature conditions. Fats also dissolve some essential nutrients like vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Without some fat in our diet, we cannot survive. The fear of eating too much fat and gaining weight is often associated with anorexia and other eating disorders, but fat, in moderate amounts, is actually healthy for your body. Look for fats that are good for your body, such as those found in olive oil, and reduce the fats that are bad for your body, such as the ones found in fast food. Remember that by eating a small amount of good fats every day will make you maintain good health.

Due to the fact that so many illnesses and chronic diseases occurring amongst  people through the years, more and more individuals are paying attention to their health and fitness because it would help them to combat certain medical conditions. Today, one of the major reasons why people are overweight or suffer from minor and major health risks is that they are not concerned in having a healthy diet.

An Effective formula for a healthy diet

Healthy diet, which includes having balanced amount of food from all food groups, along with exercise or regular physical activity can lessen people’s inclination to health problems. Doctors stress that even though the basic principle of healthy diet is simple, many people are having a hard time sticking to it. The major reasons behind this often include a extremely hectic lifestyle, work that causes a lot of stress or even an environment that is not conducive in obtaining a healthy diet.

Despite the hectic schedules and busy lifestyles, people can start and maintain a healthy diet if they really want to. Experts say that nothing is impossible in formulating and effective diets plan, if one really wants to achieve a healthy mind and body.

For starters, experts advise a mix up food choices from each food group. Eating a large variety of foods and veggies can also serve as a warm up in avoiding the foods that contribute to a drastic weight gain. Having a balanced intake of calcium-rich foods, whole grains, and protein-rich products will also keep you in track. To be able in maintaining eating a healthy diet, you must also be aware of your restrictions of fats, salt and sugars levels as well as intakes. Last but not least, you must monitor your body weight regularly in order for you to determine if your body is absorbing all the nutrients that it really needs.

When do you know if your diet is healthy?

Being free from any illness or medical condition is the major determinant that a person is healthy. For those who are having a hard time identifying what is healthy on their diet and which are not, below are some tips for you.

Experts stress that a diet is healthy if it is

  • based on starchy foods such as bread, cereals, rice, pasta, and potatoes in that they are a good source of energy also, not to mention being the main source of a range of nutrients of a person’s diet like fibre, calcium, iron, and vitamin B.
  • loaded up a lot of fruits and veggies such as orange, apples, celery, broccoli, carrots, beans and peas because eating at least 5 portions of any variety can provide the necessary vitamins a body needs as well as satisfying hunger without having to worry about fats and excess carbohydrates.
  • filled with fish dishes that have high amounts of fish oil because it will provide protein, vitamins, and minerals that are not available in many other food groups.
  • low on saturated fats and excess sugars avoiding food such as meat pies, sausages, hard cheese, butter and lard, pastry, cake, biscuits, cream and the others because they are high in complex calories stored in the muscles and sugars that can cause tooth decay.
  • less in salt content because experts believe that goods that are high in salt or meals that uses too much salt can raise the person’s blood pressure which can lead to more complicated diseases especially those related to coronary illnesses; and
  • high in water content because experts believe that for a person to achieve optimum health and fitness, he or she should take in a large amount of water and foods that are high in fluid content in order to keep the body well-hydrated.

How To Choose The Perfect Gym For Your Workouts0

If you are after loosing weight, you need plenty of diet to make sure that you are burning fat and building muscle. One of the best ways to do this is to join a gym. Gyms come in all shapes and sizes, and there might even be a number of gyms in your area. Joining a gym can be expensive, so it is important that you carefully exploring all of the gyms near to your home in order to pick the very best one, possible to meet you weight loss and exercise needs on a daily basis.

The first things you should consider when you are looking at gyms are the trainers. If you are envisaging taking a class or working with a personal trainer, you should make sure that you will work with someone  being experienced and able to teach you the best habits possible. Unfortunately, there are no qualifications set for trainers in the United States, so you should check out gyms that do require training programs from their trainers.

You should also look at the equipment being offered for your use and the hours the gym is open. A gym that only has one treadmill may not be the best choice, since you may find yourself standing in line for equipments during peak hours. You also may find that your exercise schedule is disrupted if the gym is open only odd or short hours. It is of utmost importance to find a place, which will enable you to have a great workout at any time of the day that is convenient for you.

Cleanliness is also of major concern. All gyms should provide a tour of their facilities at the very least or a free trial to check out the space available of the gym on your own. If a gym is dirty, you might be susceptible to illnesses as they might spread among members at the gym. They should be equipped with a cleaning crew in order to make sure that the locker rooms are clean, as well as providing antibacterial products to wipe down the machines after each workout. Organisation is also important, as you do not want to be tripping over weights that are lying on the floor or feel cramped in a sweating high-volume area.

Last but not least, you should check out prices. Some gym memberships are by the year while others charge your credit card or send you an invoice every month. Do what works for you. You may eventually end up spending hundreds or thousands of collars on your gym membership. It is therefore important to find the gym that best suits your needs. Look at the ones closest in your area, but you might also consider those a bit further away if they seem to be a better bargain

How To Develop A Child’s Self Esteem0

The building of self-esteem starts in childhood. This means that as parents you have a responsibility to help your son or daughter to have a healthy self-image of him or herself. A healthy self-image is the cornerstone of good self-esteem.

How important is self-esteem in a child’s development? Developing self-esteem during childhood is very crucial. This is because it could affect the child in every stages of his or her development. How he looks at him or herself will definitely affect his or her future relationships, career development, confidence, prosperity and even happiness. Studies have shown that one of the traits happy people share is having a positive self-image of themselves.

How does a parent that his or her child has a healthy self-image? There are several ways to do this. Below are just some of the things you can do to develop your child’s self-esteem.

Never compare your child with other children

The single most devastating thing a parent can do to ruin his or her child’s self-esteem is to compare him or her with other children. Unfortunately, comparisons are very much a part of our culture particularly our schooling system. One of the ways a child gets compared to other children is through peer pressure.

Every child knows that there is tremendous pressure from other children, particularly from the ones in school to conform to the ways of a certain group. That is why in school you can see several cliques and these groups can be identified with different labels. There are the jocks, the jerks, the nerd or geek, the addict, the slut, etc. These groups are inherently not bad but oftentimes group’s identity precedes the individual’s identity, which could lead into a loss in identity and eventually low self-esteem.

To most adults these are just groups and labels but for a young innocent child the cliques are their world. Your child intentionally or not gets labelled and his or her tendency to is group with the ones with similar ideas and interests.

Always praise and encourage your children

When you talk to your child, always remember to use positive and encouraging words. If your child has done something praiseworthy then do not hold back on the kind and beautiful words. Doing so will do wonders for your kid’s self esteem. It does not matter whether the act is big or small. If he did something good then praise him for it. There is nothing more discouraging than the feeling of not being appreciated for the things that you have done.

Praising and encouraging children provides them with a positive self image of themselves. For them, it means that they are important enough for you to notice and recognize their achievements in life.

By constantly giving kind encouraging words to children, you can ensure that they will grow healthy psychologically.

Of course,  if they did something wrong, children should be reprimanded. But should do it in a way that it won’t hurt their ego and damage their esteem. Whenever they have done something that is less than d desirable always make it clear to them that you are not in favor with the deed and not with them.

Remember, developing your child’s self-esteem is of utmost importance in his or her mental progress. Just follow the guidelines to make sure that your kid will grow up mature emotionally and mentally.
