Practicing Yoga Safely During Pregnency (video added)0

If you are a yoga student, just recently having found out that you are pregnant you may still be able to do your usual yoga exercises.

Contrary to what many people think, yoga is good for both you and your unborn child. You will not hurt the baby, quite the contrary,  you will be able to create a healthy environment for the baby if you learn to practice your  yoga poses correctly. You can also begin to do yoga when you are pregnant. There are some poses that you will want to avoid, but if you learn to avoid the harmful poses and master the poses that are suggested as prenatal yoga, both you and your unborn child eventually benefit. However, you should learn about the recommended poses before you begin to do yoga. You should ask your pediatrician about whom you should contact. Be sure that you know what you are doing, because after all, you don’t want to neither hurt yourself nor the baby.

Yoga is beneficial because it is a mental exercise as well as a physical one. Those who try to learn and use yoga as a meditation tool, they will be in the position to relax and control their breathing. This will help you during labor, especially if you are opting to give birth without the use of drugs. You will learn how to stay calm in your later stages of your pregnancy, since many new mothers can easily get depressed and frustrated during their pregnancy.

When you are pregnant, you should pay attention to the rules that you will need to follow when practicing yoga. First, stay hydrated, stopping often for water breaks. If you get too overheated, your core body temperature will rise even more, which might harm the baby. For this reason, “hot” yoga is dangerous and should be avoided whilst you are pregnant.  You should also see to that you eat some extra calories since you are eating for both of you. However, you might also want to exercise to burn the extra calories from yourself and the baby.

Please make sure that you avoid certain poses, as they might be harmful towards the baby. Lying flat on your back, for example, can cut of blood flow to your brain and to the uterus, making you dizzy and causing developmental problems for your baby. After your first trimester you should not practice such poses, as it is simply not safe. Also skip positions that are inverted and those that require great amounts of balance. Remember that your stomach is growing every day and you will never be able to fully get used to your new shape and stay balanced. Avoid poses that might put you in danger to fall as it can hurt yourself as well as the baby. If the position includes major twisting or stretching in the abdominal region, they may also not be best exercise for you and your baby. Finally, avoid transitions in which you must stand quickly from a laying or sitting position, since this can be uncomfortable causing you to get dizzy, as well as restrict blood flow to your uterus.

However, there are a lot of positions that you will find to be helpful and most pregnant women will either practice yoga or they will just do exercises to stretch their body. You might want to talk to your yoga instructor on what poses he or she recommends to be good for your and your unborn child. A wise move might also be to speak with your medical doctor and ask them if yoga will help you and your baby to stay healthy.

Avoid Dieting - Make Positive Changes Instead0

Why is it that merely saying the word “diet” brings immediate thoughts of failure to the minds of many men and women around the world? Is it that we have all learned through trial and error that diets simply do not work?

Many of you are, when reading this, probably sitting back with your jaws dropped at the moment. After all, shouldn’t this be an article about dieting? Well, it is and it isn’t. Dieting is “the kiss of death” for many people while a new phase in your life or just some lifestyle adjustments may be just the thing that will mean success for you and your fitness and health goals.

Eating is for some an addiction. Unfortunately, you cannot exactly give up eating all together as a smoker can give up on cigarettes. I am not by any means stating that giving up cigarettes is easy but how much more difficult would it be if you were forced to have three cigarettes a day? At that point you may as well enjoy them every time the urge hits, right? The same holds true for food. You must eat in order to survive. You cannot live without eating (even more difficult in some countries, where eating is a way of living, i.e. a cultural phenomenon). This means that if food is a major problem in your life, you have to find a healthier way of viewing food.

Isn’t this where diets generally come in handy? The short answer is no. That is why diets often fail. Diets do very little to change how we view food. In fact, most diets only serve to tell us which foods are good, which foods are bad, and which foods (typically most of the foods we enjoy most J) are strictly taboo. Diets begin by forcing people to feel deprived or punished and no one likes to feel either of these things.

However, even worse is that we punish ourselves further when we slip along the straight and very narrow pathways upon which our diets put us. This implies that we are going to flounder in guilt over every little faux pas we make until we give up all together and decide to spoil ourselves once again and simply ignore the guilt all together.

In order to have realistic possibility to become successful success, you must make a lifestyle change. This is the only way that you will be able to shed those unwanted pounds without always experiencing the horrible guilt that so many dieters go through with each and every step on the way with their diets. Set goals for yourself. Make them aggressive but realistic for fitness, dropping pounds, and eating new healthy foods. Even if your goal is as simple as just eating 5 vegetable servings a day it is a great place to start.

Change your way of eating. Then change your way of looking at food and you will experience amazing changes in your attitudes regarding your health, your body, and even your level of fitness. As the first pounds begin to drop, you will ultimately begin to experience more energy and less pain when you are exercising. This experience should help keep you motivated to do even more as time goes by.

Do not think that long term weight loss goals will be as easy to achieve as loosing the first five or ten pounds. Consistency is of crucial importance when making these lifestyle changes. Take each day as it comes and begin again the very next day. This means that even if you fall completely “off the wagon” today, you can start all over again tomorrow. The trick is staying on course more days than not and learning moderation and balance when it comes to straying from the straight and narrow.

There are many ways where you can fail when it comes to dieting. I know people who have failed in almost every way I can possibly imagine. However, there is no way you can fail, when you are making positive changes in your life and are seeing positive results. It may take weeks, months, or even years to reach your envisaged goal, but as long as you are making steady and continuous efforts and progress, you are doing many great things for your health and well-being in general.

How To Achieve Health And Fitness Through Weight Loss0

Health and fitness is most of the time associated with physical appearance, specially weight. Why? It is simply the weight of a person that can tell whether he or she is living a healthy lifestyle due to the foods and habits that he or she has.

For those of you believing that their weight greatly affects their self-esteem because of physical appearance, health, emotional stability, physical abilities and the overall quality of their life in general, it is about time that you contemplate on losing weight.

When loosing weight should start

People who have finally decided to lose weight should know where to begin.

First, he or she must determine the real reason or reasons for loosing weight. By determining and establishing the reason(s) why one would want to lose weight, it will help him or her in that they can use these as motivation points during the weight loss phases they are about to face.

Second, within themselves they must truly and whole-heartedly commit in doing the things necessary in order to loose weight. By asking oneself if he or she is ready to permanently change what they eat, how they eat, their behaviour and their levels of activity, the likelihood is greater that they will lose weight faster and safer than if not .

Third, they must look for a back up support system in case they no longer can manage their weight control on their own. And last but not the least, they must make sure that they are strong enough to deal with possibility of failing in case they do not achieve their desired weight or anticipated result.

One of the most important things to remember before starting to losing weight is that the person in question should seek professional help. This is of utmost importance that one chooses a responsible and safe weight loss program and plan carefully. One must also make sure that he or she is willing to go through a trial period before investing time, money, and effort in enrolling to a specific weight loss class or program.

Tips in losing weight

Experts say that two of the most crucial factors that affect weight loss are food or calorie intake and the frequency of physical activities such as exercise. Although it may seem easy to monitor calorie intake and exercise regularly, it is not always efficient, especially if the person in question doing it is not determined and disciplined enough.

For a person to achieve their weight loss goals, here are some tips that they can use:

  • Don’t ever skip regular meals. You must not forget that food nourishes the body. Although dieting or cutting down on food intake can help one loose weight, this can and will not assure permanent weight loss since they will tend to eat more the next meal and the meals after that.
  • Regulate the food intake. Eating in smaller amounts or food portions will help one cut down on calorie and fat intake.
  • Monitor gradual/casual weight loss of about 1 to 2 pounds weekly without irritability, fatigue, or weakness. This will allow your body to regain the loss water and fats.
  • Selecting healthy food choices. Choosing the foods that a person can eat from the food pyramid would help him or her develop a well-balanced diet as well as good eating habits.
  • Cut down on calories properly. If one is loosing weight to achieve health and fitness, he or she must make sure that they know their body’s required calorie-intake because cutting too many calories can slow down metabolism. This will also make it difficult for the body to consume the necessary nutrients it needs to perform well.

The Importance Of Warming Up Before Starting Your Workout0

When you have to fit an exercise routine into your already busy schedule, you might be tempted to simply skip the warm up routine, even though you probably have heard horror stories about people getting injured whilst working out.

Just three words: don’t do that. When you skip your warm up phase, you are not only putting your body as risk for personal injury, but you are also making the workout more difficult and less efficient.

For best results, it is of utmost importance to warm up every time you work out.

Warming up does by far not have to eat up the time you allotted for exercise into your day. In fact, a decent workout only has to be about 5 minutes long to work. It does not have to be boring either, in that you can mix up a number of great moves to make your warm up as fun as the rest of your exercising. Remember that a good warm up gets all of your muscles moving, even if you though you might think that you will not be intensely working out a particular set of muscles on any particular day. Warming up is also very important regardless of if you arere doing cardiovascular exercises or (just J) lifting weights.

The motion you do for a warm up should not necessarily be difficult or make you break into sweat. The main goal of the warm up is not to become a part of your workout, just simply to slowly move those muscles that you have not really thought about all day to wake them up. Good moves, therefore, include things like jogging in place, doing jumping jacks, lunging, and jumping rope.

A good warm-up might also including slowly stretching your muscles in a variety of ways, although this usually is more effective for a cool-down phase. Also consider exercises that work on balance and form in order to prepare you for the exercises you will be doing in the workout.

If you really are short on time, why not try warming up before you even get to the gym. Slowly jog or power walk to the gym, park as far away as possible and lunge to the door, and take the stairs instead of the elevator (!). That way, when you get to the gym to workout your warm up routine is already half way done.

A good workout always builds in intensity. This is the best way to shed pounds and maintain a healthy weight. Weight loss workouts are only risky if you don’t warm up, because otherwise your body will respond to prevent injuries. Although you may be tempted to skip this step, that is never a good idea.

Strike It Up With Your Yoga Poses (new video added)0

There are a lot of yoga poses and you might wonder if some are still exercised and applied. The answer is yes. Yoga poses function and perform differently. Each pose is designed to develop one’s flexibility and strength.

Here are some of the yoga poses that are most commonly used:

Standing Poses

Standing is one of the important yoga poses. This type of pose is helpful in aligning your body and your feet. This is also very useful in improving and maintaining a good posture. It is an advantage because if you have a bad posture, your backbones can be stretched and straightened without noticing it. Standing poses helps in giving strength to your legs and at the same time increase elasticity in your legs and hips because they are all connected to each other.

A very good video on Standing Yoga Poses can be viewed here
(you have to have Adobe Flashplayer - is free from Adobe)

Seated poses

These types of yoga poses increase your lower back and flexibility of your hips. This also strengthens your back. This adds suppleness to your knees, groin, ankle and most especially your spine. Another advantage is that it helps you to breathe in deep which gives you that calm and peaceful feeling.

Forward Bends

This type helps you in stretching the hamstrings and your lower back also strengthening it. This lessens the tension found in your neck, shoulder, back and increases flexibility in your spine. Calmness is also achieved in this type of pose.

Back bends are amazingly helpful in opening your chest, hips and even the rib cage. This is helpful in strengthening and making your arms shoulders stronger. At the same time, it simultaneously increases your flexibility and elasticity in your shoulders. The great thing is that it helps to relieve the tension from the front of your body up to your hips and it increases your spinal ability. Your spinal cord is one thing that is important in your body so you need to take good care of it.

Back Bends

Notice that the forward bends are challenging because the exercise gives you a nice feeling and it can cause to fix some injuries. In this type of position, you can use a prop like the strap or the black because it will be very helpful.

Below is a video in order to visualise what Back Bending is all about
( you must have Adobe Flash Player - is free )

Balance

Balance poses are very challenging. People who do yoga get too excited in performing balances. This is good because the fun that the person acquires helps him to live up his spirit and enlighten his soul. Balance is helpful in improving your posture. In improving your posture, the spinal cord is elongated which helps to keep yourself from some injuries and falling over.

Balance helps in training your ability to focus on your main goal and attention. However, attention should be obtained in the ultimate level because if your concentration is weak, for sure you cannot perform this type of pose.

Balance is one of the yoga poses that people truly appreciate and exert effort for. Along with the balance poses comes the twist, which extremely releases tension all over your body. The tension in your spine is made clear. Twisting may seem to be hard to obtain. It is important to execute twists on both sides of the body so that the balance and alignment is obtained.

Taking note of these yoga poses will help you get along with yoga perfectly. Keep in mind that concentration is your main key if you want to be successful in doing these yoga poses.
